Nothing more than a sphere resting—in what appears to be an impossible balance—on a cone that serves as its base. The juxtaposition of two basic geometric shapes gives rise to an original object with perfect proportions. A simple composition enhanced by the extraordinary balance of its proportions and the understated elegance of its non-reflective materials. The light is diffused, and the luminous effect is accentuated by the geometric simplicity of the design. When designing Bilia, Gio Ponti envisioned a smaller-scale version in a range of “spray-painted colors.” Drawing on those handwritten notes from the original project, Fontana Arte presents Bilia Mini in breathtaking new color variations.
